Preparing Preschoolers for Life … One Step at a Time
Our Mission is to provide an affordable, quality, early childhood education that prepares children for successful academic experiences, in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. Our programs help children develop emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically while also providing support and stability for families.
Our Vision is for Stepping Stone’s programs to be available for every child who needs us, regardless of their family’s ability to pay, and that every child who attends the Center is provided a firm, rich foundation from which to flourish and grow.
We are a member of Keystone Stars, a state-wide initiative to improve and support quality early learning programs in Pennsylvania. We are extremely proud to have achieved the maximum Star 4 level! Our teachers are professional educators whose training and credentials meet or exceed state standards and requirements.
I love Stepping Stone because it’s a family center that has provided life-enriching lessons for my child. My son has learned so much since he’s been with Stepping Stone. Sure, there are other places providing child care in Phoenixville, but I wouldn’t even consider anywhere else.
I always tell people how professional Stepping Stone is and that I feel my child is in a safe learning environment. We love the activities and fun themes that the children are involved in. It is hard to be away from your child all day, but it makes it a lot easier knowing my child is in a school where the teachers care so much about the children.
- 30% of our families receive tuition assistance through the Chester County Department of Human Services.
- 70% pay full tuition or receive partial assistance through our scholarship fund.
- Contributions from caring individuals, foundations, corporations and organizations help to bridge the gap between the cost of providing top quality education and care and the reimbursements we receive.

All our classrooms are equipped with up to date amenities and include developmental features for kids of all ages. We have a keypad security system to help provide safety and security for our children, their families, and the staff.
The Stepping Stone Education Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization created in 1985 as an after school program for school age children in the Phoenixville area. In 1987 preschool classes for three, four and five year olds were added. From 1994 until 2008, SSEC concentrated solely on educating preschool children. In September of 2008, SSEC took a leap of faith and created a new school at Franklin Commons. This new building allowed the expansion of programs to include fulltime preschool for three, four and five year olds, a Kindergarten Enrichment class, a Summer Camp for preschoolers and school age children and an After School program for elementary age students. To provide the best opportunities for the children and their families, SSEC works closely with the Phoenixville Area School District, Chester County Intermediate unit, Center for the Arts and Technology, Valley Forge Christian College, Phoenixville Community Health Foundation and the Phoenixville Community Education Foundation. In the past thirty years, over 1000 children have experienced a unique preschool education with SSEC!
