A Letter From the Board (1/14/2012)
From when it first opened its doors as an after school program in the First Presbyterian Church
of Phoenixville to blossoming into a program that offered a 2, 3 and 5 day pre-school program,
to the leap of faith that we know it today-a fulltime preschool, enrichment and summer camp
from infants to school age children-the Stepping Stone Education Center would not be what it is
today without its director, Janet Hunter
On behalf of the students, teachers, families and board of the Stepping Stone Education Center,
it is with great sadness to announce that Janet Hunter will no longer maintain the position of
director of the center. Janet started with the center in 1987, when the school was only 2 years
old, as a teacher. She is the parent of three of the center's alumnae and has dedicated much of
her life to enriching the center.
Janet has been an asset of the center, not just through her expertise as a teacher and director,
but through relationships that she has created for the center with the community. For her
hard work, she was recognized in 2000 for her "unwavering commitment" to the students of
the school district by the Phoenixville Area High School. In addition, Janet was recognized as a
Champion of the Community by the Phoenixville Area Health Foundation in 2001, as Volunteer
of the Year in 2005 by the Phoenixville Recreation Department, and in 2008 received the
Mayor's Citizen Recognition Award from Phoenixville Mayor, Leo Scoda.
Over the last 25 years, Stepping Stone would not be the same center that it is today, having
educated over 1000 students, if it weren't for Janet. So please, as an alumni, parent, friend or
community member, take a moment to thank Janet for her dedicated and unselfish work that
she has given to not just Stepping Stone Education Center, but the Phoenixville community.
